The recommendations of the European Commission list nine-point conditions. Among them, special attention is paid to the consistency of Georgia's actions with the common foreign and security policy of the EU. The European Commission recommends that Georgia be given EU candidate status, despite the fact that Tbilisi was unable to fulfill all the requirements presented by the EC last year.
The final decision on granting candidate status to Georgia will be made by the European Council on December 14-15.
In March 2022, Irakli Kobakhidze, chairman of Georgian Dream, announced Georgia's application to become a candidate for membership in the European Union. The same step was taken by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on March 3 of the same year.
