Azerbaijan remains the largest investor in Georgia

Azerbaijan remains the largest investor in Georgia given the volume of investments made in the Georgian economy in the first half of 2016.

In January-June this year, Azerbaijan invested $ 283 million in Georgia, which is 34% of the total volume of direct foreign investments, according to the materials of the National Statistics Service of Georgia "Sakstat".

The second place in the list of investors is occupied by the United Kingdom with $ 108 million (13%), and Turkey is in third place with $ 85 million (10,2%).

In the first half of 2016, the volume of direct foreign investments in Georgia amounted to $ 834 million, which is 11% more than the revised data for January-June 2015, according to Sakstat.

Most of all investments during the reporting period were made in the field of transport and communications - $ 377 million, which is 3,3% more than in the first half of 2015. Transport and communications accounted for 45% of the total foreign direct investment in the Georgian economy in January-June 2016.

During the reporting period, foreign direct investment in the financial sector amounted to $ 118 million, which is 156% more than in January-June 2015. The financial sector accounts for 14% of the total foreign direct investment in the Georgian economy in the first half of last year.

In the first half of 2016, foreign direct investment in the energy sector amounted to $ 85 million, which is 31% more compared to January-June 2015. The energy sector accounts for 10,2% of the total foreign direct investment in the Georgian economy in 2015.

In the first half of 2015, the volume of foreign direct investment in Georgia, according to updated data, amounted to $ 754 million.
